Community Awareness & Screening Programme – 23.o3.2024

To commemorate World TB Day 2025, the District Chest Clinic (DCC) Kandy organized a Community Awareness and Screening Programme for the general public on Sunday, 23rd March, at the Bogambara Prison landscape area, Kandy. This initiative aimed to enhance public awareness, promote early detection, and strengthen community engagement in the fight against tuberculosis (TB).

  • Two community awareness street dramas to educate the public on TB prevention, symptoms, and treatment

TB Awareness Programme at Elders’ Home, Ampitiya – 20.03.2025

The District Chest Clinic (DCC) Kandy conducted a TB awareness programme at the Elders’ Home in Ampitiya on March 20, 2025, as part of their ongoing efforts to educate and protect vulnerable populations from tuberculosis.

Elderly individuals are at higher risk of TB due to weakened immune systems and prolonged exposure in communal living environments. The programme focused on raising awareness about TB symptoms, transmission, early diagnosis, and treatment adherence.

 

TB Awareness Screening and Elders’ Home Visit at Loolkandura Estate by District Chest Clinic, Kandy

The District Chest Clinic (DCC) Kandy conducted a successful TB awareness screening at Loolkandura Estate, reinforcing the commitment to early detection and community health promotion. The event, led by Dr. Ishani, District Tuberculosis Control Officer (DTCO), along with the dedicated staff of the DCC Kandy, aimed to enhance public awareness of tuberculosis (TB) and provide essential screening services to estate residents.

In addition to screening services, the team conducted awareness sessions, educating the community on TB symptoms, transmission, and prevention strategies. They also highlighted the availability of free diagnostic and treatment services at the District Chest Clinic, encouraging residents to seek medical attention if they experience TB symptoms.

This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of the District Chest Clinic Kandy to combat TB and promote community-based healthcare interventions.

TB Awareness Programme at Open Prison Pallekale by DCC Kandy

The District Chest Clinic (DCC) Kandy conducted a TB awareness programme on 12 th of March at the Open Prison in Pallekale, aiming to educate inmates and prison staff on tuberculosis (TB) prevention, early detection, and treatment. This initiative was part of ongoing efforts to reduce TB transmission in high-risk environments and ensure access to essential healthcare services.

The programme included educational session, where inmates and prison officers were informed about TB symptoms, modes of transmission, risk factors, and the importance of seeking timely medical care. Emphasis was placed on dispelling myths surrounding TB, highlighting that the disease is preventable and curable with proper medical intervention.

By conducting such outreach programmes, DCC Kandy continues to play a vital role in TB prevention and control, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive necessary healthcare interventions.

 

TB Awareness Programme for MOH Staff at Nawalapitiya MOH In-Service Training

In commemoration of World TB Day 2025, the  Kandy Chest Clinic team organized a TB awareness programme for the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) staff at Nawalapitiya MOH in-service training on March 11, 2025. The session was conducted with the participation of Consultant Respiratory Physician, Dr. Sachini Seneviratne, and aimed to enhance the knowledge of healthcare workers on tuberculosis (TB) prevention, early detection, and treatment.
