World TB Day 2025 Activities by DCC Puttalam
The District Chest Clinic (DCC) Puttalam, under the leadership of Dr. Madhavi De Alwis, District Tuberculosis Control Officer (DTCO), has actively conducted multiple TB awareness initiatives across the region in commemoration of World TB Day 2025. These activities aim to enhance public awareness, early detection, and prevention of tuberculosis within the community.
1. TB Awareness Programmes in Schools
Recognizing the importance of educating the younger generation, DCC Puttalam organized awareness sessions in two prominent schools:
- Palaviya Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya
- Science High School Puttalam
Students were educated on TB symptoms, transmission, prevention, and the significance of early medical intervention
2. Continuation of TB Awareness Programme for PHIs and PHMs
As part of the ongoing World TB Day 2025 initiatives, DCC Puttalam continued its TB awareness training for Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and Public Health Midwives (PHMs) at various Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions. The latest session was conducted at Pallama MOH, reinforcing the essential role of public health workers in TB detection, patient support, and community education.
These awareness sessions equip frontline healthcare workers with the latest knowledge and strategies to identify TB cases early, improve treatment adherence, and reduce stigma associated with the disease.
